Jason Quigley is on the verge of securing what would be the biggest fight of his career so far.
According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, Quigley could face Ryota Murata at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on October 20th.
Japanese fighter Murata won middleweight gold at the 2012 Olympics in London. Currently 14-1 in his career, he holds the WBA's secondary middleweight belt. That would be on the line should he and Quigley face off this autumn.
If he was to won, Ballybofey man Quigley would be in line to face middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
Quigley is 14-0 in his career with 11 KOs since turning pro four years ago.
Earlier this year, he made his comeback with a knockout victory against Puerto Rican Daniel Rosario. The 27-year-old former World Championship silver medalist put Rosario on the canvas in the sixth after dominating the fight. He had been out of action for a year after suffering a serious hand injury against Glen Tapia in March 2017.
Murata successfully defended his title for the first time back in March when he knocked out Italian Emanuele Blandamura. His second defence will be his first fight outside of Japan in four bouts.
Quigley is promoted by Golden Boy and Murata by Top Rank. If the fight goes ahead, it would likely be the main event on a Top Rank card broadcast by ESPN+ in the States.
