Jason Quigley is tipping Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to win against Gennady Golovkin in their highly anticipated trilogy this Saturday.

After a draw in their first bout and a controversial victory for Canelo in their rematch, two of the greatest fighters of this generation clash once more in the T-Mobile Arena for the undisputed World Super Middleweight Championship.

Canelo, a four-division champion and first and only fighter to be undisputed at Super Middleweight, suffered an upset when he moved up to light-heavyweight and lost to Dmitry Bivol.

While many fans and experts were shocked by Canelo’s loss, Quigley knew just how dangerous Bivol is.

“Bivol is very similar to Usyk, he’s eastern European, he doesn’t speak too much in the media, he’s very hidden, but his talent is unbelievable.

Dimitry Bivol was around the exact same time I was around in the European world circle as an amateur, he was cleaning up right left and centre, he was an unbelievable talent.

I knew his boxing skill, his footwork and timing and everything would be on point, and he would give Canelo a lot of bother, which he did and got the victory.”

Ahead of the trilogy, the Donegal man claims how Canelo mentally bounces back from this loss will be crucial to his chances of victory.

“It all depends now on how Canelo can bounce back from this. It’s not a defeat from a big name, it’s not a defeat he can rematch right away and make millions again.

It’s all going to be how Canelo takes this fight mentally. I seen in a statement that he released that he didn’t get beat by the better fighter and he got beat by Bivol because he didn’t give it 100%.

People can look at that two ways and go there’s the answer, or people can look at it and say why didn’t he give it 100%

I think he has proven to us through the years just how much of an athlete and a professional he really is.”

For Canelo, this fight is about further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest fighters the world has ever seen and will likely look for further big name fights and new challenges to prove to the world his dominance.

For Golovkin, this could be the last time we see the Kazakhstan fighter. At 40-years-old, a victory this Saturday could round off a memorable career.

“I watched his fight when he boxed Murata for the WBA regular world title, and the first four, five rounds, I thought Murata was going to clean him out.

He was getting hit a lot, wasn’t really giving nothing back, looking like a deflated fighter. But all of a sudden, Murata started to tire, Golovkin’s power started to come through, and he got the job done in very good fashion.”

Despite Golovkin showing signs of slowing down, and Canelo likely to come into the fight more aggressive after his loss to Bivol, Quigley can see a similar outcome in the trilogy as last time the two entered the ring.

“I think this is going to be a similar fight. I can't see Canelo getting in there and completely whitewashing Golovkin, and I can't see Golovkin doing the same.

It’s going to be very touch and go throughout the fight, but I do see Canelo coming out a unanimous decision winner.

I think he’s going to shave and neck rounds throughout the fight, and Golovkin will be successful in a couple of the rounds, but I definitely think Canelo will be the younger, fresher man and he’s going to nick too many rounds on Golovkin.”

Ladbrokes have the Mexican fighter as favourite with Canelo evens to win on a decision.
