Cork’s Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan is reported to be set for the biggest fight of his career with a bout fixed for September against Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez's re-match with Gennady Golovkin is fixed for May, however, regardless of the result from that fight IrishBoxing.com reports that the Irishman will be his next opponent later in the year.
With a Vegas venue touted, the match-up represents a life-changing opportunity for O'Sullivan who recently defeated Antoine Douglas in Canada. 'Spike' has only ever been defeated twice, by Billie Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr.
In a recent interview, O'Sullivan declared this match-up as one he was eager to arrange.
The fight I’m looking at is Canelo after May 4th so I hope that Canelo obviously beats Golovkin. I’m going to fight him regardless but it’s much better for me if he wins.
