Madness At Irish Boxing Event As Incorrect Winner Announced After Blunder

There were crazy scenes at the end of the Mayday Mayhem Irish boxing event at the Red Cow in Dublin as Tony McGlynn was incorrectly declared the winner of the BUI Celtic Super Lightweight title fight against David Ryan.

It was the main event of a nine match card for JB Promotions and it had been an exciting night up to that point and the main event looked to be a fitting end to the card as both McGlynn and Ryan went blow for blow in their contest.

It was a great main event but as the final bell went the general opinion was that David Ryan just edged Tony McGlynn to take the title. Therefore it was a surprise to many when McGlynn was read out as the winner of the bout by 78-73.

Ryan's camp were livid with the initial call, felling that although it was a close fight, Ryan had done enough to be declared the winner. There were up to 15 minutes of arguing and deliberations after the announcement before it was soon realised that a massive mistake was made.

The scorecard had been written the wrong way around and the winner was supposed to be David Ryan by the score of 78-73.

The BUI confirmed the blunder and overturned the decision and David Ryan was declared the BUI Celtic Super Lightweight Champion. It was a fairly embarrassing moment for all involved and not a mistake that they'll want happening again.

You have to feel for McGlynn because as far as he knew he won the title, however dubious the decision may have been at first and then had to hand the title over to Ryan just minutes later. However, it didn't seem like there were too many hard feelings post fight as the two were pictured together after their war.
