Gennady Golovkin defended his middleweight crown for the 20th time on Saturday night. The Kazakh fighter defeated Armenian-born Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center - the home of LA Galaxy - in California.
It took the 36-year-old Golovkin just two rounds to finish Martirosyan, who was fighting for the first time in nearly two years.
Last night's event had been slated for a rematch between Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. The two fought to a draw back in September. However, the Mexican was pulled from the fight after testing positive for clenbuterol.
Martirosyan started the bout in positive fashion but midway through the second round, Golovkin unleashed a barrage of punches from which there was no comeback for his 32-year-old opponent.
