Katie Taylor added another string burgeoning reputation as a professional when winning the WBA Women's Lightweight World title in unanimous points decision over Anahi Esther Sanchez (17-3) at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff tonight.
Taylor looked to make light work of Sanchez when she dropped her opponent in round two with a devastating body punch but credit to Sanchez lifted herself off the canvas and never gave up until the final bell sounded.
Taylor's add's the world title to her stellar amateur career which saw her claim one Olympic gold medal, six World Championship gold medal's and five European Championship gold medals.
The Bray native won the hearts of the Irish public when becoming Ireland's first world champion in 2006 as she defeated Erica Farias of Argentina in the 60kg final and became a national treasure when she finally secured an Olympic gold medal in London 2012.
Unsurprisingly the reaction on Twitter to Taylor claiming her first title after seven bouts was one of joy and elation.
Katie's former teammate Stephanie Roche simply overjoyed and why wouldn't she be!
