The IABA claim that a Donegal boxer fabricated a story about winning a European Colleges title in England, denying that any championships took place and saying there is no way he could have fought in any such event.
According to a report on the Donegal Sports Hub by Chris McNulty, Ethan Ó Domhnail managed to get himself interviewed on local radio and in a local newspaper and well as having a 'Good Luck' message posted for him by Letterkenny IT, where he studies, and (real-life) European champ and Donegal man Jason Quigley.
But bizarrely the President of the Donegal Boxing Board, Peter O'Donnell, told McNulty:
There were no European College Championships on this week and the Irish Athletic Third-Level Boxing Association (IATBA) have not had any boxers away on representative duty.
I have checked the records and there is no possible way that this man could have boxed this week. He could not have stepped into a ring as he has no medical card and has no affiliation.
If it does turn out that there were indeed no such European championships, this may well be one of the greatest cases of arse-chancery we've seen in recent years. Remi Gaillard would be proud.
This sort of thing makes us question everything. How do we know we exist? Is there such thing as an Olympics?
It's all very Mr Robot.
