Shortly after news broke last night that Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will fight in Las Vegas on August 26th, UFC president Dana White appeared on ESPN's Sportscenter to discuss the news.
White had been involved in negotiations to make the fight happen. He confirmed that the event will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and that it will be fought at 154lbs.
Mayweather Promotions will take care of the undercard. Michael Conlan is already keen to make an appearance.
It will be at the T-Mobile Center in Vegas. It will be at 154lbs. They'll wear 10-ounce gloves. It will be in a ring. It's a boxing event.
Mayweather Promotions will build the undercard.
White added that McGregor wants to fight again this year. UFC 220 on December 30th would appear primed for a McGregor appearance.
I think we will. Obviously, Conor and I have been talking a lot throughout this negotiation. He wants to turn around and fight again this year. That's one of the million reasons people love Conor McGregor.
Asked about the financial situation surrounding the fight, Dana White said all involved were very happy with the deal.
I can tell you from everybody's perspective and every side - everybody is happy with this deal. It went a lot easier than I thought it would go and everybody is walking away from this thing happy.
