While allowing for a predictable defeat, Conor McGregor's night went pretty well. He will leave Las Vegas infinitely richer, with his reputation intact: lasting ten rounds on his feet against Floyd Mayweather - he never hit the canvas - has earned him the respect of much of the boxing world.
Not everyone was impressed, however. Carl Froch was on commentary for Sky Sports ringside, and he was in no mood for charity toward McGregor. The former World Champ said that he "wasn't impressed" and "expected more" from McGregor, in spite of it being his first professional fight.
Many viewers believe he was excessive in his praise for Mayweather, too: in noted contrast to the Showtime commentators who were more willing to point out Mayweather's limits.
Here's a portion of the reaction among fans to Carl Froch.
Carl Froch 100% has a pic of mayweather up in his bed room..😩 crawl out mate

Froch is painful to listen to 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Appreciated Adam Smith's balanced commentary on Sky, but Carl Froch gave Conor scant respect despite the experience gap between the two men.

The commentary on sky box office is horrific. Mcgregor has taken Mayweather to the ninth and they're giving him no credit at all.

Elsewhere on Showtime, Paulie Malignaggi gave McGregor a bit of respect, however grudging.
