The Will Grigg song: we've crossed the rubicon, haven't we? It was undoubtedly magnificent when it first came to the world's consciousness back in May, but it has become pretty old by now, with the thieving of the song by fans of different sports and, worst of all, fans of sports stars whose names have far more syllables than Will Grigg.
This hit its nadir when morons at Wimbledon chanted 'Murray's on fire, Centre Court is terrified'. Christ.
That said, Carl Frampton's defeat of Leo Santa Cruz has offered a fresh rendering of the song:
Frampton's on fire, Santa Cruz is terrified
Not bad, and Frampton himself seemed to approve, as he ended this interview with BBC NI to join in. Frampton was speaking at a bar in New York, where had organised a piss-up for all of his supporters. Frampton invited whoever wished to come, and agreed to pick up the bar tab: something he admitted may end up costing him a fair whack.
Nonetheless, Frampton seemed to love the occasion, stressing that he was exactly like those who turned up. That's absolutely true, but it didn't stop him doing some serious name-dropping in the interview. Watch below:
What a great champion.
