Is This Bad Form By George Groves?

George Groves will not give Carl Froch a rematch should he win Saturday night's much-anticipated bout, it has emerged today. Despite Groves having petitioned the IBF to impose the mandatory defence on Froch, the Daily Mail have said that the Londoner is unwilling to return the commitment.

IBF super-middleweight title holder Froch was understandably miffed at Groves' decision. He said:

Accidents can happen in the ring but it’s interesting that George won’t offer me another rematch if he gets lucky. And while I’m fighting him again, he never gave a second chance to Kenny Anderson.

Kenny Anderson was the late replacement to whom Groves refused to give a rematch after he knocked Groves down before being stopped in the sixth. Anderson succumbed to amphetamine use soon after but it was his only loss in a 19-fight career.

Both men believe the fight will live up to its massive billing, and will justify the 80,000 Wembley sellout just 24 hours after England host Peru at the same venue. Said Groves:

This will be a great fight, even if it is one Carl cannot win in the end. I will knock him out in the third.

The Cobra's forecast was less bombastic but icily confident. He said:

George is getting stopped. Probably in the mid-to-late rounds but sooner if he tries to fulfil that early prediction.

In other boxing news, David Haye could be making a return to the ring. His trainer has claimed that the Hayemaker wants to fight the winner of the upcoming Tyson Fury - Derek Chisora heavyweight contest. Speaking to the Daily Express, Adam Booth said:  'It's true, 100 per cent true, David is coming back.

"We will not be making any big announcement but David has been given the all clear by his medical people and he wants to fight again.

"We plan to get back in the ring before the end of the year and preferably by October.

"David has started training and there is no need to keep this a secret any longer. He has been trying to recuperate for five and a half months and only now has he been given the all clear to fight again."

Haye last fought in 2012 when he beat Chisora at Upton Park after a load of nonsense in the buildup. He was set to fight Fury last September but the bout was postponed and then abandoned.
