Everyone since that glorious win over Matt Korobov in December, thoughts have been on one thing. Andy Lee defending his world title in Thomond Park. After Lee took the difficult option of facing Peter Quillin in New York, it looked like that may not happen.
That fight ended in a draw after Quillin weighed in over weight and the dream was back on. Next up was always going to be Billy Joe Saunders and thoughts of a world title bout in Ireland were once again front and centre. Frank Warren, Saunders promoter, stated the fight had been earmarked for September 5th. However, he stopped short of revealing where the bout would take place.
That detail has become a little bit clearer today and it's very good news. The Irish Independent are reporting that sources in Limerick have confirmed Lee vs Saunders will take place in Thomond Park on September 19th.
Given that 'some of the details have yet to be fully agreed' we won't go over the top on the excitement just yet but it's a very positive development for what would be one hell of a night for Irish sport.
