Michael Conlan suffered his third loss in five fights, as Jordan Gill secured an underdog 7th round TKO win in Belfast last night.
The fight was for the vacant WBA International super-featherweight title, with the winner put back on track for a shot at one of the main titles.
It wasn't to be for the 32-year-old former amateur World Champion, with Conlan announcing on social media that he is now going to take some time out from the ring.
Andy Lee Advises Michael Conlan To Retire
On punditry duties for DAZN was Limerick man and former WBO world champion, Andy Lee, who strongly suggested that Conlan should now retire from the sport.
Brutally honest, Michael as to be considering retirement now.
I admire his determination to carry on. Tough loss to Leigh Wood, a round away from maybe getting the decision. Then that really tough loss to Luis Alberto Lopez.
And maybe that was the time to call it a day. And everyone can admire someone who wants to keep going. Try and try again, its not about how many times you get knocked down its about how many times you get back up.
But sometimes, theres more to life than boxing. You've got to think about your health, he's a young family, he's got to retire now.
He's got a promotional company, he's done very well outside of boxing. So I think he's in a good place financially so retire, keep your health, and that's your wealth.
