'The stars are aligned'. That's Andy Lee's feeling as he heads into tonight's WBO middleweight title bout against Matt Korborov in Las Vegas. The Limerick man has worked away under the radar (for casual fans at least) since his last world title shot in June 2012 and now he's back for another bite at the big time.
There was a sense that the 2012 defeat at the hands of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. may be his only chance to claim a coveted world title but that's not the case and Lee goes into tonight's fight against his Russian opponent with destiny on his side.
It's my time. The stars are aligned and I feel this is my destiny to become middleweight champion.
Once again Lee will go into the title fight as underdog. His 31 year old Russian opponent is unbeaten in his 24 fights since turning pro in 2011, however Lee feels he even more incentive than Korborov.
Lee's legendary trainer Emanuel Steward passed away not long after that fight against Chavez and Lee firmly believes he has it in him to win the title that Steward always said he would.
Adam (Booth) has built on the foundations that Emanuel laid. Winning this fight will be a fitting tribute to Emanuel and make true the vow he made when he said I'd be a world champion.
