The most intriguing rivalry in recent Irish boxing history returns to the centre stage tonight with the Elite Championships at the National Stadium. Joe Ward and Kenneth Egan meet for the third year in a row for the Irish light heavyweight title. Egan told the Indo he's 'never trained as hard in his life' while Ward remains 'quietly confident' despite being the clear favourite. You can revisit their previous two fights below.
2011. Egan came into the fight looking to win an 11th consecutive Elite Championship at light heavyweight. His opponent was a 17-year-old from Moate, Joe Ward. Ward seemed to catch Egan off-guard, and even knocked Egan down in the third. The final score was 11-6 to Joe Ward. A new king of the 81kg was crowned.
2012. Egan fought like hell for his shot at London. Ward was entirely dominant though and won 29-10.
