Andy Lee's first defence of his WBO middleweight title will be against Peter Quillin.
That's according to Frank Warren who is the promoter of Billy Joe Saunders the fighter who was the mandatory challenger.
Warren believes that a Lee vs Saunders title fight would be huge and should take place in a London football stadium this summer. However the unavailability of one until later in the year means his fighter steps aside.
Saunders agrees with his promoter:
Frank's right in that the fight between me and Lee, if he defends his title against Quillin, will be a massive fight and needs to be held on the biggest stage and that's a football stadium, the fight will only get bigger and bigger, so the timing needs to be right and it needs to wait until the summer.
This is all of course based on Lee defeating Quillin. The American was the title holder previous to Andy Lee but vacated the belt rather than face Matt Korobov.
In his London Independent column, Warren said that the Lee and Quillin fight would take place in New York in April.
