The chances that Pearce Hanley will play his football with Brisbane Lions next season are looking less likely. A fortnight ago, the Mayo man was linked with a move to the Gold Coast Suns.
At the time, The Australian reported that Hanley desired the change as he had become tired of playing on a losing team. That story would seem to be confirmed by quotes from Lions list manager Peter Schwab who was speaking to SEN.
Pearce Hanley trade rumours
Schwab said that Hanley has developed 'losers' fatigue' and that the club is considering a trade.
Pearce has got a long-term contract with us.
He and us are exploring it (a trade).
I think Pearce, to be honest, has a bit of loser's fatigue with Brisbane.
He’s been there a while and been frustrated that we haven’t had success.
We haven’t categorically said we’re going to get rid of Pearce at all. It’s just an expression of interest from a few clubs, that’s all.
Brisbane have only won seven games over the last two seasons. A move to the Suns would only be a marginal improvement in that respect. They've won ten games over previous two seasons.
Fox Sports reported last week that Hanley, who have three years left on his contract with Brisbane, was set to have a meeting with Gold Coast regarding a possible trade.
The 27-year-old, last year ranked as the 37th best player in AFL, made the move to Brisbane in 2007.
