Just two games into his senior AFL career and Conor Glass has been given a new contract by his club.
Melbourne-based Hawthorn announced on Wednesday that they have extended the former Derry minor's contract until 2019.
Glass was initially listed as an international rookie in 2015 and then made the move to Australia last year. He made his debut to rave reviews in a win against Freemantle last month and then played his second game, a win against Sydney, last weekend.
Hawthorn Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said the 19-year-old already looks comfortable at senior level.
Conor made his AFL debut just two weeks ago and has shown he is comfortable at the level. He is a great mark, displays great intent, and has shown great skills on either side of his body. He will remain on Hawthorn’s Rookie list in 2018, with the promise of an elevation to Hawthorn’s senior list the following year.
Glass, who won a Hogan Cup with St. Patrick's Maghera, has started his AFL career playing at half-back. Though, at the level below AFL, he has also played midfield.
I started at half-back because you can see the game in front and that's usually where all Irish boys start but I went into midfield for VFL. You want to play a variety of different roles to maintain an AFL level. Hopefully down the line I can get forward and kick a few goals but the priority is to defend first.
