For 370m at the London Stadium on Wednesday night, it looked like Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo was also going to become world champion.
In sodden conditions, the Bahamian had a healthy lead heading down the home straight. That was until she appeared to pull a muscle in her right leg with the finishing line beckoning.
Her misfortune allowed 25-year-old American Phyllis Francis to claim gold ahead of 19-year-old Bahraini Salwa Eid Naser. Another American, defending champion Allyson Felix, would finish back in third.
It was another memorable finish involving Miller-Uibo and Felix. At the Olympics last year, Miller-Uibo controversially dived across the line to claim victory ahead of Felix.
