We all have an ideal vision of how the fifteen minutes between 16.45 and 17.00 today. Katie Taylor enters the ExCel Arena. The arena erupts. Jimmy Magee on radio and Marty Morrissey blunder hoarsely through their commentary. Katie kicks ass, win gold. Tricolour lift to the rafters, Amhran Na Bhfiann is played.
BUT
If yesterday is anything to go by, the RTE Player will be under severe duress with the entire population of Irish people with jobs (a large, though not staggering amount of people) logging on at work to watch the fight. Today should be even more crazy as the country stops entirely for the fight. You'll need a contingency plan should the worst happen. Here's some back up plan:
AERTV Ideal if you crave Jimmy Magee commentary and crying retired Irish boxers. You get the RTE feed just by clicking on. I found this site buckled as well yesterday so you might need some other back-ups.
EurovisionSports: No commentary, but a stream so reliable that RTE sent it out as an alternative to the Player after their website crashed yesterday.
Illegal Streams: If you can tolerate pop-ads and racist message board banter, bob's your uncle
Paying options: If you're the type of person who only finds assurance in things that are paid for, may we recommend Streampro, which provides streams of practically everything for about 30 quid a month.
There are also iPad options:
@ballsdotie Another option: the iPad app FilmOn has the BBC channels. This assumes BBC will be showing the fight.— Barry Wallace (@barryedmund) August 9, 2012
