There was a near-fatal mishap during the pole vaulting at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat when Timur Morgunov's pole lurched back towards him and pierced through his shorts.

All had gone according to plan during the Russian athlete's approach and run-up, but after planting and launching, he caught the bar and collided with his pole on the way down.

Morgunov is actually competing at the event as a neutral athlete having been granted an exemption by IAAF. He was okay to continue and simply put on spandex over his shorts.
