The spirit of Steve Ovett and the English rugby team lives on in the heart of Molly Huddle, a US long distance runner, who decided the prospect of a third place in a 10,000m world final was worthy of a premature celebration.
As premature celebrations go, it wasn't especially exuberant, but she appeared to be in the process of producing what the commentators would term a wave of delight. Her grimly determined teammate Emily Infeld pipped her on the line.
The race was won by Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot.
Check out our ode to those who dared to celebrate early only to end up with a face full of omelette. It includes the aforementioned Ovett and the English rugby side and the not yet mentioned French football press.
