The spirit of Steve Ovett and the English rugby team lives on in the heart of Molly Huddle, a US long distance runner, who decided the prospect of a third place in a 10,000m world final was worthy of a premature celebration.

As premature celebrations go, it wasn't especially exuberant, but she appeared to be in the process of producing what the commentators would term a wave of delight. Her grimly determined teammate Emily Infeld pipped her on the line.

The race was won by Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot.
