Irish Olympic athlete Derval O'Rourke has today announced her retirement from athletics. The sprint-hurdler has called an end to her career which most notably saw her take Gold for the 60 meter hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in 2006, and Silver in the 100 meter hurdles event at the European championships in 2006 and 2010. As usual, we took to twitter to gauge the reaction of Irish sports fans.

Derval O'Rourke retires. A pure 'Cork' sports star, pushed herself to the limit on the big occasions, charismatic yet straight talking.
