Thomas Barr finished third in the 400m hurdles at the Shanghai Diamond League on Saturday.
The race was won by Abderrahman Samba of Qatar with American Rai Benjamin in second.
In a good sign for his World Championship hopes later this year, Barr ran 49.41 - his fastest ever season opener.
Samba - the second fastest ever in the event - won in 47.27, the fastest time in the world this year, while Benjamin - the joint-third fastest ever - ran 47.80.
"I’m very happy with that, I felt smooth and easy from the get-go," Barr said following the race.
Barr's next race will be on May 30th at the Diamond League in Stockholm.
