Thomas Barr finished like a train to win the 400m hurdles in Lucerne on Monday night.
Barr, running in lane two, was fifth as the field hit the home straight but finished fastest of all as he ran a season's best of 49.10 to win the race. The Waterford man edged out American Teejay Holmes and Jamaican Shawn Rowe to claim the victory.
Last night's mark is still well off his personal best of 47.97 which he ran when finishing fourth in the Olympics final two years ago.
It has been an unremarkable season for Barr thus far but with the European Championships in Berlin just a month away, Monday night is a sign that he is hitting form at the right time.
He now ranks seventh among Europeans this season.
