While the rest of Bray is awash with TV cameras and hastily made Katie Taylor posters and t-shirts, the building that produced the Olympic champion lies dormant. Tucked away in a corner just opposite Bray harbour, and a couple of hundred yards from the nearest toilet, Bray boxing club, much like Taylor herself cuts an unassuming figure.
Rugged and weathered, it is the kind of building that you feel demands hard work from its inhabitants, like a grizzled, no nonsense coach. In person it stands as even greater testament to the work of Peter Taylor and his fellow coaches that they were able to send two of their trainees to the Olympics from a facility that will never be confused as luxurious or even adequate. Imagine what they could do with little more funding?
