Although many held the belief that Ireland's athletes could leave their mark on this year's European Athletics U18 Championships in Hungary, few could have expected this kind of success. With Sarah Healy and Rhasidat Adeleke winning gold in the 3000 and 200 m respectively, Sophie O'Sullivan has now added yet another medal to Ireland's tally.
In the 800 m final this evening, the daughter of Ireland's running legend Sonia O'Sullivan raced her first final in an Irish vest; duly delivering the silver medal. In first place was the highly-rated British athlete, Keely Hodgkinson.

Less than two hours before O'Sullivan's heroics in the 800 m, Adeleke claimed Ireland's second gold medal of the championships in the 200 m. Leading from the off, the 15-year-old Adeleke was imperious; winning in some style.
Yesterday evening, Healy was arguably more dominant still; winning the 3000 m at a near-canter. Up again tomorrow evening in the 1500 m final, there is a very good chance Ireland's medal count will exceed the current three that Healy, Adeleke and O'Sullivan have already claimed.
