Just over four months after giving birth to her son Maicel, Shaunae Miller-Uibo won the 400m on the pre-Diamond League programme in Zurich on Thursday evening.
Miller-Uibo ran 51.83 as she won the race ahead of Annina Fahr and Julia Nieerberger, both of Switzerland, in second and third, respectively.
The 29-year-old Bahamian is a two-time Olympic champion. She won 400m gold in Rio and Tokyo and also gold at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.
Miller-Uibo did compete at last month's World Championships in Budapest but was eliminated in the 400m heats.
"I just give God thanks and praise," she said after Thursday's race.
"I've got my little bundle of joy. I always wanted to be a mom. It's the most amazing thing ever. I went to Budapest; at the very last minute, the body started to feel really well. We said, 'Hey, let's just go out and get a run in and get back into competition with the ladies'.
"This was my second [race this season]. We're dropping it down piece by piece. Started off off with 52 [seconds], and now 51 [seconds]. We have one more race for the season."
On Tuesday, Miller-Uibo posted to Instagram announcing her return.
"A Woman’s body is truly Powerful," she wrote.
"At 4 months postpartum I decided to take a step back on the world stage. I felt it was important to show all women that the end does NOT come with pregnancy. You can continue to work towards your dreams. It’s been proven many times before. Sure, not all journeys will be the same, but know that you WILL be back to pursuing your dreams.
"I stepped onto the track this year with a new title; A MOTHER. And I am beyond proud of myself. I hope to inspire other mothers and those who are considering becoming a mother that your dreams do not end with Motherhood.
"Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me. I love and appreciate you all. The journey to my third Olympic Gold Medal begins."
