In the build up to the big race on May 4th, we will be taking you through some of the top tips for beating your personal best and bringing you lessons from the world of sport that we all can learn from.
Today, Running in Comedy.
It's not difficult to see why running features fairly regularly in comedy. The clumsy gaits, the novice runner's unsightly puffing and panting, the shoes. Today we take a look at just a few occasions when road-work became cause for laughs in sitcoms or stand-up routines.
Father Ted pelts a stone off a fisherman
Look, he ran afterwards, all right? Actually, provoking a potentially violent person into chasing you might just be the best training there is.
Phoebe runs in Friends. Sorry.
I know this was supposed to be about running references in comedy, but, yeah. Moving along anyway...

Peep Show - Mark Corrigan and Big Suze go jogging
This is more like it. Also, if you're lucky enough to have Sophie Winkleman as your running partner then motivation shouldn't be an issue - unless you're as unathletic as David Mitchell...
... in which case running away from your problems in a car park is the best option.
Seinfeld - The Race
Jerry meets an old rival, who insists that they re-run a contentious race from their high school days.
Billy Connolly on practical running aids
The Big Yin on a mickey-securing contraption seen in an alternative-interest publication.
Tommy Tiernan on Declan Moffit
Regardless of one's opinion of the Navan comic, pretty much very Irish person of a certain age must know this bit off by heart, which says plenty about the man's cultural reach.
Homer Simpson
If you haven't tramped the tarmac in a while, your first run or two might resemble the efforts of The Brick Hithouse, (also known as the Southern Dandy). Supplementary sessions at the gyme won't do any harm either.
Bill Hicks on Jim Fixx
Bill Hicks was never going to be much of a running fan - a massive tobacco and drugs habit took care of that. The Jim Fixx bit that follows preceded a very similar gag by Hicks' former friend Dennis Leary, and intensified the enmity between the two after the latter had been widely accused of plagiarising material from Hicks.
In short, Fixx was the man credited for popularising jogging in the 1970s, He died from a heart attack in 1984 aged 52 - almost inevitably, while jogging.

Doug Stanhope on Fun Runs
Wise words from the wonderful misanthrope. Raise your money regardless, but run because you enjoy it.
And finally, a guy who looks like Larry David running in USA flag hot pants
This should make you feel better about your own form and kit. It's not the man behind Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, but if he does indeed go out running in Stars and Stripes shorts, it probably looks something like this.
