A young Irish female athlete won a second sprinting medal of note in less than a week on Tuesday.

After the 18-year-old Gina Akpe-Moses won 100m gold at the European U20 Championships on Friday, her former club mate claimed 100m bronze at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Hungary.

Patience Jumbo-Gula of St. Gerards AC in Dundalk ran 11.59, with the aid of a strong wind, to finish third behind Mike Bisschops of the Netherlands and Emese Takacs of Hungary.

Though her time in the final was not legal due to the wind, the 16-year-old did run two PBs in the previous rounds.

In her semi-final, Jumbo-Gula ran 11.74. That was good enough to make her the 20th fastest Irish woman ever - a remarkable considering she just recently turned 16.
