What a crazy day to be Melanie Nocher. Her Olympic dreams sadly came apart as she suffered from a gastrointestinal illness. Yet the aftermath to her swim this morning has proved surprisingly surreal. Firstly she pissed off the precious RTE hacks by choosing to use the toilet after her swim and take to Twitter rather than do an interview for TV. RTE journalist again backed up the general sense that the organization are clueless when it comes to social media by having a go at Nocher.

Some very angry Irish journalists in the mixed zone by the pool as swimmers take to twitter but won't speak to media.

A few hours after the swim, Nocher took to RTE to do a live interview with Michael Lyster. He was eager to learn about the state of her illness.

The silver lining for Nocher (if you'd call it that): she now has a strong fanbase of young males. Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some.
