Mark English has smashed the Irish indoor 800m record this afternoon, coming out on top in Abbotstown.

The Donegal native would finish the race in a time of 1:46:10, taking over half a second off the previous mark he set in 2014.

He was pushed all the way by 18-year old Longford man Cian McPhillips, whose mark of 1:46:13 took 2.5 seconds off English's national U20 record.
