In the process of confirming his international status as an Irish athlete, Leon Reid has claimed gold in the 200m final at the Irish Life National Track & Field Championships in Santry.
Having previously run a personal best of 20.27 at this distance, Reid's win is all the more extraordinary for the race that preempted it.
In Carlow's Marcus Lawler, the second-fastest Irish runner at the 200m, Leon Reid had a direct opponent of similar class for this afternoon's clash.
And that is exactly how it played out.
Looking to have ceded control of the race to Lawler half-way through the race, Reid blistered through the final 100m; catching Lawler just before the line.
A rivalry that may well enchant fans of Irish athletics for years to come, that both men could run so well in such debilitating conditions only goes to show what might yet be to come.
