Just days after finishing less than a second shy of breaking the mile world record, Jakob Ingebrigtsen was back on the track.
The Norwegian, 1500m gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, did a beer mile for his stag party along with his brothers and friends.
For a beer mile, runners are required to drink a 355ml beer, with a minimum of 5 per cent ABV, before the start of each lap. That's four beers in total.
According to a picture on his brother Kristoffer's Strava account, Jakob ran 5:22.42 for the beer mile.
His brothers Henrik - European 1500m champion in 2012 - and Filip - European 1500m champion in 2016 - ran 5:52.31 and 7:28.45 respectively. Kristoffer finished in 7:30.11. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Corona were two of the beer options.
"No new world record unfortunately. Became too heavy with the drinking,” Kristoffer posted.
The world record for the men's beer mile is held by Canadian Corey Bellemore, who ran an incredible 4:28.1 in 2021.
At the Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday, Ingebrigtsen ran 3:43.73 for the mile, a new European record and the third fastest time ever for the distance. Only Kenyan Noah Ngeny's 3:43.40 and Moroccan legend Hicham El Guerrouj world record of 3:43.13 rank ahead of the Norwegian.
Last month, Ingebrigtsen finished second to Great Britain's Josh Kerr in the 1500m final at the World Athletics Championships along with claiming gold in the 5000m.
In 2017, Bellemore explained part of his race strategy for a beer mile.
"After you chug those beers, the first hundred meters of the next lap, you really have to focus on getting the burps out," he told Bleacher Report.
"You want to burp, but not burp too deep because then you'll puke. There's a lot of carbonation in those beers and you want to get that out of your stomach."
