Ireland's partipication in next year's Rio Olympic Games just increased yesterday after three women made the qualifying time for the steeplechase. It was the third Letterkenny AC International Track and Field Event, and the steeplechase was one of the featured races of the day.

Trio Kerry O'Flaherty (9:42:61), Michelle Finn (9:43:34), and Sara Treacy (9:44:15) all finished within the Olympic qualifying time of nine minutes and 45 seconds. The race was won by American Jamie Cheever, before the trio of Irish finished second-third-fourth.

It's doubly good news for O'Flaherty and Finn, as their times also qualify them for next month's World Championships in Beijing. The qualifying time for that race is a second faster at nine minutes and 44 seconds.
