The London games were one of the more successful Olympics for Ireland. And our eventual medal tally (one gold, one silver, and three bronze) may be getting bumped up now two and half years after it all ended.
The king of late medal victories, Rob Heffernan may be bumped up to a bronze after doubts have been raised over a number of Russian athletes, one of whom took who gold in the 50k walk - a race in which Heffernan finished fourth.
In the past few hours, three Russian walkers have been suspended in a doping probe - Sergei Bakulin, Vladimir Kanaykin and the gold medal winner in London Sergey Kirdyapkin.
The investigations may well endanger their results at the 2012 Olympics and so Kirdyapkin's victory is under threat. Naturally, everyone else will move up one.
And of the 17 gold medals won by Russian walkers in the past decade, 16 have either been banned for doping at some point or are currently under suspicion.
Last year, Heffernan picked up his bronze from the 2010 European championships, after Stanislav Emelyanov (he's Russian too) was stripped of his gold medal for doping offences. History could well be repeating itself.
Excluding Atlanta 1996 for the minute, Heffernan's possible elevation means the London Olympics will stand alone as Ireland's most successful ever in terms of medal haul.
It currently ranks alongside Melbourne 1956, where Ronnie Delaney took gold in the 1500m and several boxers won medals.
