Ciara Mageean set a new Irish record for the 1000m at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on Friday evening.
Mageean ran 2:31.06 as she finished third behind winner Faith Kipyegon and second placed Laura Muir. All three set new national records while Kipyegon's 2:29.15 puts her at number two on the all time list.
Mageean's run took 3.6 seconds off the previous Irish record which was set by Sonia O'Sullivan in France 27 years ago.

It is just the latest Irish record for the 28-year-old Mageean. Last month, she became the first Irish woman to run under two minutes for 800m when she finished in 1:59.69 at a meeting in Switzerland.
