Brendan Boyce booked his spot at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo with a fifth-place finish at the 50k European Race Walking Championships in Alytus, Lithuania on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Donegal man finished in a personal best time of 3:48:13 beating his previous record by 42 seconds.
Boyce was involved in a three-man battle for third along with Portugal’s Joao Vieira and Poland's Artur Brzozowski for much of the second half of the race.
The race was won by France's Yohann Diniz with Belarus' Dzmitry Dziubin in second and Vieira in third.
Next year will be Boyce's third Olympic Games. He previously competed at London in 2012 and Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
