WWE may be pre-determined sports entertainment, but the danger is still very very real, as Bray's very own Finn Balor found out in a Hell In A Cell match vs Edge at Wrestlemania last night.
Edge threw a ladder at Finn in the middle of the match, which caused a really nasty looking cut that stopped the match temporarily. (It wouldn't be the first time a Hell In A Cell was stopped temporarily, see Undertaker vs Mankind 1998).
Balor shared a close-up of the nasty gash this afternoon.
There are no blood subs in WWE however. Finn finished the match after reportedly getting his head stapled and taking a numbing agent. In the end, he even went through a table, but unfortunately for the Irish wrestler, WWE legend Edge picked up the victory.
Just goes to show how tough these WWE superstars are who put their body on the line week in and week out. This nasty injury also reminded us of a Westmeath U21 Hurling match many years ago, when Westmeath beat the Kilkenny U21s: Hell In Cusack Park you might say when Castlepollard's Warren Casserly had a similar nasty looking injury back in 2016.
Message to take away: Both WWE and Hurling can be dangerous.
WWE Sale after Wrestlemania
The big talking point outside the squared circle this weekend at Wrestlemania was the sale of the WWE to Endeavor, the owners of the UFC. Today, Ari Emmanuel, Endeavor CEO confirmed that Vince McMahon would still be very involved in the new WWE.
I would’ve body slammed him if he thought he was going to leave. Here’s a man who has seen around the corners at every beat over the last 40 years of this business and has a vision for where this business (is going) way before a lot of people see it. Him now being able to utilize what we have built in our flywheel, I’m the luckiest guy in the world because I’ve got Vince McMahon, a visionary that sees around corner. I’ve got Dana White and what we’ve built. That’s pretty unstoppable.
