If you're not familiar with Alex Rodriguez's story, then you might want to climb out of whatever rock you've been hiding under. In the last month, A-Rod has become the USA's most despised athlete - some achievement in a nation that Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods and Tyson Gay all call home.
Cameron Diaz's boyfriend recently tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in his urine sample. Rodriguez was handed a 150 game suspension but has appealed the severity of the punishment, citing other baseballers who received a less severe punishment for a similar offence. Then the New York Yankees villain enraged the country further when his lawyers leaked documents implicating several other baseball players were also guilty of doping, including his Yankees team mate Francisco Cervelli.
A-Rod's ongoing appeal means he is still free to play the game, a ridiculous loophole considering he openly admitted to using banned substances.
So when the Yankees faced their most fearsome rivals the Boston Red Sox last week, tensions were understandably high between the sides. Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster received the adoration of his home crowd when he took the law into his own hands and fired his first two pitches straight at A-Rod, the first hitting his elbow and the second came worryingly close to his head. Dempster was given a warning but avoided ejection from the game and afterwards received a lenient 5 game ban.

A-Rod got his own back by hitting a home run on Dempster's pitch later in the game.

In a post-game interview, Rodriguez gave a brilliant one-liner when asked whether he thought Dempster deserved a suspension for his actions. "I'm the wrong guy to be asking about suspension, holy mackerall," he joked.
