US college student Kewan Platt has been barred from his campus and suspended indefinitely from his basketball team after footage emerged of him taking an opponent out with a vicious elbow during a game between the Fitchburg State Falcons and Nichols College Bison.
Taking the term 'late hit' to a whole new level. You can clearly see Platt check if the baseline ref was watching before carrying out the hit, but one of the refs caught the indiscretion and gave Platt his second technical foul of the game, resulting in his ejection from the game.
The college involved, Fitchburg State, have since issued a statement whereby they condemned the late hit and revealed that the student has been disciplined for his actions:
The Fitchburg State community is appalled by the conduct displayed during Tuesday night’s home basketball game. The player involved has been indefinitely suspended from the team and barred from campus, effective immediately.
His behaviour is antithetical to our community values and good sportsmanship. Fitchburg State does not tolerate behavior that violates those standards. The case is being reviewed at the student conduct level for consideration of further sanctions.
