In case you have been living under a rock for the past number of months, a sequel to Space Jam is in the pipeline, meaning we are all waiting for confirmation on the Space Jam 2 cast. The original will be an exceptionally difficult act to follow: it was a film so good it inspired a 30 for 3o documentary (sort of).
The star of the original was Michael Jordan, and he was recently asked by a group of students who he feels should succeed him as the lead actor/MVP of the Tune Squad.
It is widely expected to be Lebron James, but Jordan had a different answer:
There are a few reasons why Jordan may have selected Griffin for the Space Jam 2 cast. Firstly, Griffin plays with the L.A. Clippers, so logistically, he is in a good position to shoot a Hollywood movie.
Secondly, Griffin is a Jordan athlete, so a high-profile movie appearance would be some handy product placement for Jordan.
And thirdly - this is admittedly in the realm of speculation - a small part of Jordan wants to see the sequel fail to protect his legacy. (Ah, maybe we're being overly harsh here).
In reality, the movie needs Lebron, who is one of the few personalities in basketball capable of carrying the film. Also, Griffin may not be the greatest role model for kids: he spent eight weeks out earlier this year for punching the Clippers' equipment manager in a restaurant.
