The WWF was in its absolute pomp at the start of 2001. The build up was on to Wrestlemania X7, which many would argue to be their greatest show ever. Just a couple of months before that event, the 2001 Royal Rumble took place in New Orleans.
The "Attitude Era" was at its apex and its biggest stars - Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H - were all at their very best, especially with the recent return of Austin from his career threatening neck injury. Add to that The Undertaker, Kane, Kurt Angle and countless others, and you get the idea of the just how exciting a time it was for wrestling fans.
For people in this part of the world, the Royal Rumble that year was an even bigger deal than Wrestlemania. Channel 4 had agreed a deal with the WWF to broadcast four of the twelve annual Pay-Per-View events, and the Rumble was by far the biggest of the four. For the first time, it was possible for those of us who didn't have Sky Sports at home (almost all of us) to stay up late and watch the show before turning up somewhat bleary eyed to school on the Monday morning.
For fans of a certain age, this was the ultimate. But how well do you remember the 2001 Royal Rumble? Anyone can identify The Rock or Stone Cold, but only real old school WWF fans will be able to name all 30 who took part in the actual Rumble match, with only a grainy screengrab from the event as a clue.
There were a few surprise appearances on the night too which should really test your memory.
Anything over 20 is a decent score, but we want real fans to get full marks here. Let us know how you get on.
(TIP: Watch out for spellings and capital letters - eg. "the undertaker" won't cut it.)
