It is well known that Americans are split down the middle between being very vulgar and very outrage. In an NFL game between the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts these viewpoints collided when referee Tony Corrente was caught on his microphone swearing twice. Natually the comentators participated in a "Will someone please think of the children!" routine.
God damnitt is not a particularly colourful swear, is it? It is in a league where one of its most well know athletes, Tim Tebow, routinely thanks his lord and saviour Jesus Christ. The commentator really sells its with an exaggerated "oooooh". No doubt he was grimacing as well.
!This swear gives more cause for reprimand but rather than a quick apology the commentators shock derails them totally. Hopefully if they are ever in a real crisis they react better than "Goodness gracious saints alive!".
