Just two games into his NFL career, Daniel Carlson was cut by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday. It came a day after the 23-year-old missed three field goals during a tie with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Carlson missed one in regular time and two more in overtime. That included a possible game-winner.
At a press conference on Monday, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was asked, "What went into the decision to let Daniel Carlson go?"
"Did you see the game?" was his immediate and brutal response.
"Yeah, it was pretty easy," said Zimmer when asked if it was an easy decision to make.
The Vikings drafted Carlson in the fifth round back in April. They traded two sixth-round picks to the New York Jets to move up and do so.
"Nah, that's water off a duck's back," responded Zimmer when asked if he regretted trading the picks.
We'll get some more sixth-rounders next year, I'm not worried about that. Plus we got three undrafted free agents on the roster, too, so it's probably better than having those sixth-rounders.
The Vikings are set to sign former Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey as Carlson's replacement.
