On what was an unprecedented day for the NFL, one of the main talking points regarding on-the-field action was a brainfart that lead to some instant karma being dished out.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers looking to convert a field-goal that would have left the score at 10-14 in favour of the Chicago Bears at halftime, Chris Boswell shaped up what looked like a routine 35-yard field goal, which instead turned into one of the craziest plays of the season.
The kicker saw his attempt blocked, and would have feared the worst as Bears' cornerback Marcus Cooper scampered away for what looked like a guaranteed TD at the other end of the field...
However, inexplicably, Cooper took his eyes off the prize and was instantly punished, but that was not the end to the madness.
What a mess.
After a lot of reviews, the refs awarded the Bears the ball on the one-yard line. The Bears coaches were adamant that a safety should have been awarded, but the ball was spotted on the one-yard line and the Bears were awarded an 'untimed down' which they turned into a field goal.
The moral of the story is, as it is in every sport, play to the whistle! Huge credit to Pittsburgh tight end Vance McDonald for the hustle play, but that from Marcus Cooper will be remembered as one of the great NFL 'bonehead' plays.
