The NFL's long awaited return to Los Angeles his finally here. The LA Rams are going to be the LA Rams once again after a much discussed stint as the St Louis Rams. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last night confirmed that team owners voted 30-2 to allow the Rams to return to the west coast.
The LA Rams will take to the field from the beginning of the 2016 season with USC's LA Memorial Coliseum their likely home for the next three seasons. From 2019, they will move to a new $2 billion stadium in Inglewood. That project is being financed by the teams owner Stan Kroenke who many will know from his involvement with Arsenal.
Speaking at the official announcement, Goodell stated just how important the new stadium would be to the long term success of the Rams in LA.
The NFL owners tonight approved the return of the Los Angeles Rams. Starting with the 2016 season. In 2019 they will be opening in a new stadium which we are all, as ownership, very excited about — the kind of facility that we believe will be extraordinarily successful in the Los Angeles market. It’s more than just a stadium, it’s an entertainment complex.
And while the city may have gone over two decades without an NFL franchise, they may have two before long. Both the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders have been angling to move in to the Inglewood stadium alongside the Rams and now it seems that the Chargers are in pole position to do just that with confirmation that the team have the option to confirm their move to LA at anytime over the next year.
