First of all, and this should go without saying, SPOILERS below!
The Royal Rumble is perhaps the one WWE pay-per-view of the year that will draw the attention of fairweathered fans who have drifted away from professional wrestling over the years. Many will watch for the sheer novelty and the hope that they might see a few familiar faces from the past enter into the 30-person rumble.
For those of that mindset who were watching Sunday night's men's rumble they were treated to perhaps the biggest pop in Rumble history as 11-time world champion, Edge, made his return after a nine year absence from wrestling.
In 2011, Edge was forced into retirement due cervical spinal stenosis, a condition brought on from neck injuries and one that was thought to be career-ending. However in recent weeks it had been rumoured that he had been cleared to make a return and was in talks with WWE about rejoining the company.
Fast forward to Sunday and the no.21 spot in the Rumble...
After spearing everyone in sight, Edge lasted until the final three before he was eliminated by Roman Reigns. Drew McIntyre - who had earlier eliminated Brock Lesnar - then threw Reigns over the top rope to win the whole damn thing and book his place at Wrestlemania. Meanwhile in the women's Rumble, Charlotte Flair emerged victorious, setting up what could be a brilliant match between her and her old nemesis Becky Lynch.
