Jarryd Hayne's dream in the NFL is over. For now anyway. The former NRL superstar lit it up in pre-season action for the 49ers, but has failed to replicate his form in the regular season.
As the 49ers have struggled, Hayne has got less and less playing time, which has hindered his development. A few crucial drops as a kick returner meant that he only returned eight punts all season, and he lost the job to wide receiver Bruce Ellington.
After star running back Carlos Hyde was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot, it was expected that Hayne might get more carries for San Francisco. That will no longer happen after he was cut in favour of the 49ers promoting practise squad running back Kendall Gaskins. It does seem like Hayne has a future in the game, with the 49ers hoping he clears waivers to sign him to their practise squad, amid rumours that another team will take a punt on him.
The reaction to the move online has been met mostly with criticism, with most people thinking that Hayne will get picked up by another NFL team:
49ers hope Jarryd Hayne clears waivers and re-signs with the 49ers’ practice squad on Monday.

Based on Twitter, it seems the only people who think waiving Jarryd Hayne is a good idea is the #49ers.

Jarryd Hayne should get a call from the Raiders, a return man is needed. No more Carrie or Cooper out there

Jarryd Hayne being cut from the 49ers is like being fired from a company that still uses a dot matrix printer. Come to Seattle, Jarryd!

Hayne got cut by the 49ers? Great, now Belichick is gonna turn Jarryd Hayne into a Pro Bowl linebacker
