This August, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are set to battle with the Florida State Seminoles at the Aviva Stadium as the 2024 Aer Lingus College Football Classic returns for another year.
The event, which is entering its fifth edition, has given Irish fans the chance to experience an authentic American sports experience right on their doorstep with the pre-game tailgates and marching bands adding on to the experience.
In what will be Georgia Tech's second appearance at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, having beaten Boston College 17-14 in 2016, they will feature a punter from Castleisland, Co. Kerry, David Shanahan, who is the punter for the ACC school.

Ahead of the big game in August, Shanahan was asked to describe American Football to an Irish person who may not know a lot about the sport, in collaboration with Clayton Hotels, the official hotel partner of the 2024 Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
David Shanahan explains American Football for the Irish.
Shanahan was given the task to explain the American sport in ten seconds or less in a way that an Irish person would better understand and here's what he came up with.
It's kind of like rugby, but you're allowed to throw it forward as well, and you get four goes to get 10 yards and if you don't get it, the other team gets the ball back."
Shanahan then explains how he feels is the best way for an Irish person to learn the ins and outs of American football. The Kerry native suggested to learn by watching a game, whether that be an Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin or one of the NFL games hosted in London each season.
